Study Tips

  • Have a clear, specific, and measurable goal. ‘Learn Esperanto’ or ‘Become fluent in Esperanto’ is a horrible goal! How do you know when you achieve this goal? How can you measure this? How specifically will you achieve this goal every day, week, and month? What’s the time frame or deadline? How much time each day, week, and month will you spend and what resources will you use? Make the goal realistic, specific, measurable, and make sure you record feedback so you know what’s working and what needs to be adjusted. Learn what works for you.
  • Keep Forvo.com open so you can listen to different pronunciations.
  • Keep a dictionary open so you can look up words.
  • Get an Esperanto keyboard.
  • Keep a journal while you’re learning so you can record feedback of what is working and what isn’t, and list changes you’ll make for your next study session.
  • Speak out loud and write down new words and ways to use them. Don’t learn a word in isolation, learn it in a phrase or sentence because that’s how you’ll use it in real life.
  • Use a timer to help stay focused and ensure you are getting in your allotted study time each day.
  • You use your native language daily in various formats, so practice your new language daily in various formats.
